Round 5 - East Fortune - Melville M.C.R.C.

Saturday 12th & Sunday 13th August

A long trip for most, but well worth it. As ever, the Melville Motor Club were great hosts. As some probably know, the meeting was sadly affected by the tragic loss of a solo racer which led to the abandonment of the Saturday programme. With record numbers of sidecar entries, the Sunday programme was rearranged giving us two races for our championship. We had seven registered teams and two eligible teams who were not registered to score points in the series: Tony Wheatley / the ever youthful 81 year old Ron Hardy (TZ750), and John Chandler / Adam nix (Heys 600 Thundercat).

Race One

Wheatley’s TZ finished second on the road, but not being part of the championship due to eligibility rules, Mark Burns / Steve Winfrow (900 Baker Honda) took first, Dave Tibbles / Raitch Greenwood were second, and Hayley Capewell / Sarah Stokoe (600 Windle Thundercat) third. Gerald and Daniel Hodgson saw an overnight engine change pay dividends as they took fourth followed by Ian Sutcliffe / Robert Bryant (600 Jacobs Yamaha), whom had spent all Friday night fitting their repaired motor.

Race 2

The TZ was missing due to ignition problems, discovered whilst warming up the machine. Jody and Reece Sims were back on form to take the win after a chain broke in the first race. Burns / Winfrow placed second in their best weekend to date since Mark's return to the sport following a lay off of thirty years. Capewell / Stokoe made it a brace of third place finishes, while the Hodgsons replicated their earlier fourth place. Tibbles / Greenwood finished fifth, with Sutcliffe / Bryant and Marianne Walford / Kerry Hughes (600 Yamaha) being the remaining finishers.

There is less than a month to go until the penultimate round, a two day meeting at Mallory Park with E.M.R.A. Thank you for the fifty pound sponsorship money donated by PAGID brakes which was won by Jody Sims, and to our championship sponsors Lane Building Services that provided excellent trophies.
